Foot-and-Mouth Outbreak in Japan

The Business Weekly Times has reported beef exports from Japan have been banned following the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease (June 2010). More than 200,000 head of stock have been destoyed, including seed Wagyu stud bulls. This has resulted in a rise in enquiries for Blackmore Wagyu Beef, mainly from the United States, since the outbreak in April. Read article here

Sustainability at Noosa Food & Wine Festival

The Australian reported in its First Bite column, that it was good to see food and wine festivals starting to engage in some important issues. They cited the forum on sustainable produce at this year's Noosa Food & Wine Festival. Asked for a short definition of what the trendy term sustainability actually meant, Blackmore suggested: "Sustainable farming does not include abusive use of chemicals and antibiotics or any use of growth hormones"(The Australian, April 2010).
